About Ben Buchovecky

I am a graduate student in the Department of Atmospheric and Climate Science at the University of Washington advised by Abby Swann. I am interested in how terrestrial ecosystems modulate climate, with a focus on evapotranspiration. For my research, I run large ensembles of climate model simulations with CESM2 to quantify the influence of land surface processes on precipitation and temperature extremes.

I completed my undergraduate studies at Princeton University where I earned a B.A. in Geosciences. During my junior year, I collaborated with Graeme MacGilchrist, Mitch Bushuk, and Alexander Haumann to quantify the potential predictability of Southern Ocean phytoplankton blooms. For my senior thesis, I worked with Gabe Vecchi to study how the physiological response of vegetation to increased CO2 influences tropical precipitation.
